The search for the soy wax candle

In the past six months or so, I’ve noticed an increase of fragrance home diffusers sold around town from Lane Crawford and the Landmark Mandarin Oriental spa to City Super. Yes it’s nice to have a home or office smelling nice but for me, nothing beats the scent of a burning candle.

Having lived in the US for many years, I always thought that candles aren’t that hard to come by. After all, Yankee Candle is everywhere and my personal favourite, Village Candle, can also easily be sourced. Turns out in Hong Kong, nice scented candles that burn nicely is rather hard to find especially if you are looking for soy wax candles. (Soy wax candles burn cleaner- not so much black gunk after burning- and also smell better.)

So imagine my surprise when I found soy wax candles at the OMWorld Lifestyle shop at Cyberport. The candles don’t come cheap, expect to shell about $300 per candle that lasts about 60 hours but smell divine. I loved the smell of the chocolate, coffee, jasmine and frangipani scents that they have available.  I also recently found out that Harvey Nichols sell Bungalow No. 9 candles which are also soy wax based and are cheaper as well, at least according to their website. I think it’s time to take a trip to Central.
