Wear & Share: Leatherhead
I told my friend Mizz Shopaholic Michelle that I wanted a leather T-shirt, and not only did she find me two, she went ahead and bought them for me, "just in case they were sold out later" -- what a doll! Since I now have long hair, I feel like I have to dress differently -- have to be all edgy and androgynous since I have this girly head of curls now. So I'm all about the skinny jeans, even though skinny jeans... are not skinny on me. Gained three pounds since Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. It's Wednesday. Kill me now.
Leather tee: Gift from Michelle (although I have to pay her back, haha)
Jeans: Random
Blazer: DKNY
Rose bangle: H&M
Bag: Proenza Schouler
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
I just finished telling Laura how I hate Louboutins right before I posted this. I'm such a hypocrite. I deserve to gain five more pounds. No, I didn't say that! I take it back!

Marni x H&M
All together now. SQUEEEEEEEE Come March 8th, you will see the two Geeks take annual leave to queue up for what will be a highly anticipated collection, Marni x H&M!!! There is a din of massive excitement at the Geek Headquarters. Ladies, expect vivid colours, bold prints for full pleated skirts, dresses, cropped trousers and jacquard knit, and fabrics range from silk to crisp cotton poplin. And most excitingly jewellery, shoes, bags and scarves!! I'm already coveting the accessories. Guys, you will also get stuff designed for you.. no worries. Check out the preview images and video below.
Sidenote: To give you an idea of how much we love Marni, here's a lil anecdote. A couple years ago, I'd been wanting a dog for AGES... finally convince the landlord to let us get one (after talking to him for like a year).. saved up... and then a Marni bag caught my eye and now I have a pet Marni instead of a dog..

Tis the Season: USB rings
Red Alert
Some girls look really damn good in their no-makeup makeup. Asian girls do not. Ergo, I do not. Been surfing Into the Gloss for perfect specimens of the perfect red lipstick… and then spent a couple of hours during a layover at Bangkok airport testing every red lipstick available at the counters. I prefer shopping for makeup at airports because there aren’t annoying over-attentive salespeople there to cloud your mind with their marketing-training-speak. So far all the reds are too bright red, and all the dark reds are too plum. My ultimate hue is somewhere in between. So I compromise with a mix – Nars Damned never-budges Velvet Matte fatty lip pencil, topped with Nars Vesuvio Pure Matte lipstick.

Re: Joyce
Joyce Grooming is the newly opened men's grooming shop and treatment centre in the basement of Landmark, in the genius floor that has come into its own as Landmark Men. Glad Hongkong Land finally figured out how to maximize the potential of that area, even though I miss Pizza Hut. Loads of awesome indie beauty brands, as is the schtick at Joyce Beauty, the hippest beauty boutique in the city. They include: Izola soaps (more on that later), minimalist skincare range Milk & Co developed by Olympic swimmer Michael Klim, Quintessence candles, Truefitt & Hill shaving instruments (as endorsed by Winston Churchill, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Frank Sinatra and, yes, Lord Byron), Clarisonic brush exfoliators (in grey so it's for boys) and a load of great artisan colognes.
Also available is a treatment area for spa experiences: facials for $1,000; manis ($200), pedis ($500) and brow-shaping ($250)
Time to be Crabby
'Tis the season for hairy crab and only a few more weeks left before these little crustaceans disappear from shop windows and restaurant menus.
There are some hairy crab fanatics out there who are connoisseurs of the these creatures that come from Yancheng Lake near Suzhou. They can go on and on expounding about the prized crab roe, or even extract all the little bits of meat so cleanly that the crab can be put back together afterwards (I have yet to see this for myself).
And then there are those of us who will indulge in the seasonal delicacy once, maybe twice a year and are just happy with that.
Tsui Hang Village in Central filled that spot for me this year with a great set menu for HK$738.
To start the meal off there's a large steamed minced pork dumpling with crab roe that comes served in its own individual steamer. It's a mouthful and very delicious particularly when complemented with vinegar. The next one is braised shark's fin with hairy crab roe; unfortunately one of the guests at the table vehemently opposed to us having this dish so we had the soup of the day instead. Nevertheless waiters then armed us with scissors, other extraction tools and plastic gloves to wear to prepare ourselves to eat a whole hairy crab.
The crustaceans, at six taels each, came to the table quite hot and once we removed the shell from its backside, it was steaming hot. The orange coloured crab roe was heavenly, very smooth and a pity so little of it. The equivalent is like a quickly panfried goose liver, the inside silky and sinful. Our next task was to remove the lungs and then start the laborious task of going through each of the legs and removing the meat from them.
We were given a tip to cut the legs before the joints so we basically had a straight piece and then push the meat through to the other side. The meat too was tender and sweet, but too bad so little of it! By the time we went through all the legs, we were pretty tired from all the work.
To go with the crab we also had some yellow wine -- aged 10 years -- which was deceivingly good. A preserved salted plum was plopped into our small cups and the wine was so smooth and easy to drink that three of us managed to finish a bottle before the end of the meal!
After eating the hairy crab whole, the restaurant took over with the dirty work with the final dishes. We had sauteed prawns with hairy crab roe, giving a simultaneous crunchy and smooth texture. Sugar pea shoots are now in season and they were sauteed with hair crab roe too. Delicious.
After eating crab we were given a glass of ginger tea to counteract the coolness of the crab. And for dessert there was more "heatiness" with the sweet ginger soup with glutinous dumplings.
Extremely sated and with ruddy cheeks we lumbered out of the restaurant and had sweet dreams of hairy crab for next year.

'Tis the Season: iPad Cases
There are some people who just have it all. These people are annoying. Not just because of the jealousy factor (which is not to be discounted), but because they're so freaking hard to shop for. Especially if you've known them for a while, and have used up all the good ideas: wallets, ties, jewellery, beauty products, coupons for hours of kinky lovin'... Now, lots of people have iPads, but few to my knowledge have actually gotten around to investing in a designer case. Check out some of our faves:

Swanky Do
Here's a bit of random collaboration for you. The Swank has partnered with Spasso at Harbour City to create a special The Swank Menu that is available every Thursday night from Nov 17 to Jan 26, 2012. Inspired by the fashion brand, Spasso has created the menu transforming luxury fashion into the 'ultimate Italian gourmet experience.' So what can we expect? It seems the fashion connection comes from the names and having the logo on the plate more so than presentation or ingredients.
THE SWANK Menu by Spasso
- Femme Fatale -- Oysters, baby spinach and champagne sabayon au gratin
- Autumn Urban Gastro Chic -- Wild mushrooms “cappuccino”, porcini mushrooms dust
- Passion & Style -- Paccheri from Gragnano tossed with Maine lobster, rosemary and Tuscan Cannellini beans
- Glamour & Grit – Grain-fed beef tournedos simply pan-roasted, served with pumpkin purée and aged Parmesan cheese fondue
- Sweet Swankerie -- Gianduja mousse in a crispy crushed hazelnut “cannoli”, served with a light passion fruit coulis
- Coffee or tea
The set dinner menu is priced at HK$ 568 (+10% service charge) and you need to make a booking two days in advance. What do you think? Would you be tempted to try it or is this just too blatant a marketing gimmick?

Having a Verdant Glow
French design jewellery-watchmaker Piaget continues its Limelight Garden Party theme with a curious piece that glows in the dark.
Yes -- you heard it here first. One of the latest pieces feature a pendant in 18K white gold shaped like a Chinese lantern made with green agate and sparkling with 245 small diamonds.
The press release says the pieces have "an integrated L.E.D in order to illuminate the pendant."
Thankfully the matching pair of bulbous-shaped lantern earrings don't have the LED lights.
However when you're out on the dance floor it may be reassuring to wear this glowing pendant so your friends can easily find you.
Or for guys to ask, "Who's that girl with the green glowing thing between her boobs?"
