SHOErotica: Spring 2012 Round-up
Fashion month isn't over yet, but there's mucho footwear goodness flying our way next Spring. White footwear was all over the place, and surprisingly, turquoise was also a focal hue, especially when accented with gold -- can't wait for those to hit shelves. And super jealous of Leighton Meester who already got to wear the Burberry wedges, piping hot off the runway. Of course, there's plenty of other footwear fun to be had, whether it's on-trend mint (with sort of MBT-esque offerings from Christopher Kane -- not my style but admittedly orthopedically fantastic, probably) or ladylike pointy-toed floral pumps (at Erdem but also, more surprisingly, edgy Altuzarra) or toe cleavage galore via plastic-fantastic clear vinyl strategically paneled into shoes (slightly stripper-esque, but at least heel heights are getting more reasonable). Of course, old standbys were still there: ever-chic snakeskin, or two-toned lookers. Enjoy here our Geek's Guide to Spring 2012 shoe trends so far!

Bag Lady: Burberry Nude leather bag
I want to step off the plane looking fresh and relaxed with a Burberry Nude leather bag hanging off my arm. Unfortunately, I'm not Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Charmed

It wasn't too long ago that Burberry launched its beauty line, and although I can't speak for the quality of their products, if we're going by packaging, the brand has definitely won me over. And it's 2010, who cares about quality when there's packaging to ooh and aah over? I know girls who go nuts over the cute Dior duo-use makeup charms (is it a necklace? a keychain? a lip gloss? an eyeshadow? an intergalactic robot sent to save us from Voldemort?), and those same girls will no doubt go gaga for this Burberry lip charm. At $790 from the Burberry counter in Faces in Harbour City, it's also a pretty good Christmas gift, as the Nude Beige hue will match any skin tone.
For a more straightforward approach, there's also regular lipsticks embossed with classic Burberry plaid, which makes so much more sense than stamping the tip of the lippie. This way, you can appreciate the pattern right up until you stub out your long-lasting lipwear.

Fashion Week Redux: A Hands-On Approach

Sometimes the best things to see at fashion week aren't the various trends and colours and new things that you have to buy, or new things that you don't have the money to buy. Sometimes it's just noticing little details, like a new way to carry the shoulder bag you already have in your closet. At Burberry and Proenza Schouler, shoulder straps were purposefully created yet even more purposefully ignored, carried as clutches with the straps loosely bundled in the hand.

Celebrity Sighting: Kelly Chan in Burberry Prorsum
Both ShoeGeek and I are devout followers of fashion blogs and one of the ones that we love reading is Red Carpet Fashion Awards where we can check out what international stars are wearing on a regular basis to the red carpet. And I always get a source of pride when I see Asian celebrities featured but it’s far and few between. Then I thought to myself, well why don’t we start a column where you can see what stars on this side of the globe are wearing? As we mentioned before, we don't claim to be fashion gurus but we do know what we like and don't like.
First up is Kelly Chan, singer and mother of ‘Har Gau Zhai” (Shrimp Dumpling as she affectionately calls her son) at Raymond Lam’s recent concert wearing Burberry Prorsum Autumn Winter 2010. Quick note to the PR folks, we like to see the whole ensemble and that means shoes! (The other picture of Kelly was rather unflattering and only showed the soles of the shoes. Yes we realise that she is onstage and that the photographer can only shoot up but still, if you can take the above pic, I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to just pan down a tad lower so we can see what shoes she wore with the dress.) That peeve aside, I am a fan of this ensemble although that might be my perchance for anything that ruched and draped to hide unflattering bulges. Kelly definitely doesn't have this problem. The lace overlay with peekaboo thighs is a nice touch seeing as exact knee length dresses are hard to carry off unless you are Mrs Incredible and have the ability to stretch your calves to unnatural lengths.

Entrenched

Nuh-uh they didn't! ASOS went there with their amalgamation of Burberry's trenches last season. About damn time. At a hundred pounds, what do we think? We think yes, impractical as it it is in the summer. Yes, we likey.

Scents and Sensibility: Spring Highlights
Yes guys, I know, it’s a rather unimaginative title but forgive me as I’m uninspired. There have been a slew of new perfumes coming out lately and today we’re going to highlight some of the ones that have made its way into my inbox. Note how most of them are inspired by Spring, the sun, flowers and happy thoughts, all of which Hong Kong is sadly lacking at the moment.
Yves Saint Laurent Opium
Hailed as YSL’s masterpiece, this scene opens on a wave of mandarin and bergamot to reveal a middle note of jasmine and carnation. The bottom note highlights vanilla, amber and patchouli.
Price: HK$550/ 50ml
Available at Yves Saint Laurent counters on 26th April 2010
Burberry Summer Limited Edition 2010
For both men and women, the Burberry summer fragrance aims to capture a relaxed, elegant and bright mood. The ladies can expect a top note of blackcurrants, pomegranate with citrus freshness of mandarin and white peach, middle note of freesia, honeysuckle, lily of the valley and white rose and a base note of cedarwood, sandalwood and musks. The guys gets a top note of yuzu leaves and mandarin, middle of mint, juniper berries and thyme and the same base note of cedarwood, sandalwood and musks.
Price: HK$520/ 100ml for the women’s fragrance
HK$445/ 100ml for the men’s fragrance
Available at Burberry counters on 14th April 2010
Carolina Herrera CH Garden Party Limited Edition
The CH Garden Party Limited Edition fragrance is inspired by the sensations evoked by the first sunny day after winter. The scent contains top notes of citrus fruits, middle notes of jasmine and rose petals and base notes of sandalwood and cedar.
Price:HK$760 / 100ml
Available at Carolina Herrera counters in April 2010
Paul Smith Sunshine Edition 2010
Another option for those couples who like to wear matching scents. The Paul Smith Sunshine Edition 2010 epitomises those first rays of sunshine signaling the long-awaited arrival of Spring (or so the press release claims). The guys get a top note of coriander leaves, grapefruit and black pepper with coriander seeds, nutmeg and starfruit for the middle note and a bottom-note of incense, moss and cedarwood. The ladies version opens on a zingy accord of citrus before turning flora with jasmine, white peony and bulgarian rose. Bottom notes of musk and sandalwood completes the scent.
Price: HK$478/ 100ml for the women’s fragrance
HK$405/ 100ml for the men’s fragrance
Available at Paul Smith counters April 2010

Bag Lady: Burberry Alligator Cable Knot Sling Bag
I've never been too big a fan of alligator bags as they tend to be amazingly heavy. Or maybe it's just the one that I have, which is a complete waste as it sits in my closet doing nothing because I find it way too heavy after I put all my crap in the bag... Anyway, maybe if I get a smaller version, that would be more ideal. I'm coveting this Burberry sling bag but it doesn't come cheap. First previewed during the Burberry Prorsum Spring Summer 2010 Womenswear catwalk show in London last September, this bag will be arriving in Hong Kong end of March to early April and will set you back HK$10,500.
