Beauty Notes: Kabi Face Mask

I'd never use cosmetics that contains peat before so when Kabi Organics, a Scandinavian brand asked if I would be interested in trying their face mask, I figured why not? Handmade in Estonia, the face mask claims to "invigorates blood flow, rejuvenates skin cells, removes harmful substances, restores the skin’s natural pH balance and provides the skin with beneficial biologically active substances."

So what was my experience? Well, the instructions stated that I should add a 1-3mm thick layer to my face which I found a tad difficult as unlike clay masks where you can glob it on, peat breaks into bits making hard to really apply a thick layer. The other thing was that the peat got under my nails and while washing it off, created a bit of a mess in my sink.

Once you take away the messiness, I did find the mask to be a good experience. My face did get a little red after applying the mask but this apparently is normal as the mask stimulates subcutaneous blood flow. After the redness though, my face did seem brighter and softer the next day. Definitely worth a shot if you're looking for an unconventional face mask.

NikeLab x sacai

I'm currently drooling over these gorgeous reinterpretations of Nike classics by Chitose Abe. How gorgeous and feminine. I've been trying hard to refrain from including sportwear into my shopping category (besides the very core basics) but maybe it's time to revisit my stance. (I'm sorry wallet!)

Harvey Nichols The Dolls Window Display

I can't quite decide if these dolls from Harvey Nichols are creepy or cute. Kudos to them though for making me notice their VM. I can't help but turn my head whenever I walk pass. Thoughts?

MAC x Philip Treacy

It's always so interesting to see how colours and inspiration crosses borders from fashion into makeup. Loving how Philip Treacy's gorgeous headpieces are interpreted into a highlight powder in nude pink and blush pink, lipstick in a yellow hot pink, yellow burgundy red and magenta berry (although I am not sure I'm seeing the hints of yellow here!), fluidline in bright ink blue, bright flat teal and true flat black as well as pro longwear paint pots in platinum silver and antique gold.

Geek Peek: Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca Minkoff is definitely a bit of a geek what with her affinity for utilising tech in her retail stores such as interactive changing rooms with touch-screen mirrors that let customers request different sizes and send info about their session to their phones. She's in town for the opening of her new store at Harbour City and we catch up with her to learn more about her ultimate indulgence food, what she Googles and her favourite thing about Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Fashion Geek: What’s on your lust list?
Rebecca Minkoff: A great pair of sandals for summer, I can’t wait to wear our gladiator sandals once the temperatures warm up in New York! The perfect crossbody for the weekends, I’m loving the Mini-Sydney Crossbody right now! A great leather jacket is always on my lust list. Right now, I can’t get enough of our Ace jacket with fringe!

HKFG: What’s the thing you could live without... but still can’t bear to part with?
RM: My phone. I’m constantly checking emails, looking at my favorite social media apps like Instagram, and checking in with my friends, family, and staff via text.

HKFG: What’s your favourite thing about Hong Kong?
RM: I love the unique energy that Hong Kong has and the women’s personal style!

HKFG: Tell us your secret ambition.
MK: My not so secret ambition is to be an amazing mom. I have two children now, my son Luca (3 years old) and Daughter Bowie (9 months), I want to be the best mom that I can be to them.

HKFG: What’s the song that you sing in the shower?
RM: I’m not much of a singer, but right now, I can’t get Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” out of my head.

HKFG: Your ultimate indulgence food or go-to food when you’re stressing out?
MK: I love a good croissant!

HKFG: The celebrity you would most like to be/trade place with is...?
RM: Beyonce, but only for a day- I would miss my family too much.

HKFG: What you would wish for if a genie came out of a lamp to grant you three wishes?
MK: I’d wish for luck, love, and happiness for my friends and family.

HKFG: What’s your worst nightmare?
MK: Getting stuck in an elevator- knock on wood that hasn’t happened yet!

HKFG: Last thing you think about before going to sleep?
MK: My to do list for the next day.

HKFG: What’s your favourite phone app?
MK: Instagram.

HKFG: What were your last five Google searches?

Geek Spy: Baendit Sunglasses

What with junk season approaching and hopefully some warmer weather where I will finally know what to wear, it's probably time to revisit my sunglasses collection. I was recently introduced to Baendit, a startup from Hong Kong where their modular sunglasses captured my interest. One thing that I really hate are unwieldy sunglasses cases and when they sent me a pair of sunglasses, due to the fact that you can bend them in any way you want, it was super compact and surprisingly comfortable to wear. Given that they are modular, you can personalise your own pair using your favourite colour and frames with over 100 colour combinations up for grabs. Check them out at

#Atribute to the Sketch from Giorgio Armani

I love looking at sketches and always admire people who have this talent. There's a thrill that I experience when I see the process from sketch to final product regardless of it being fashion, design or architecture. Giorgio Armani has recently released some sketches from its archive from the past 40 years and I was fascinated by the behind the scene details and the thought process that sparked the inspiration of an outfit. Check out some of the visuals after the cut.

Suntory Whisky's Gorgeous 3-D Printed Ice Cubes

I've always had a fondness for whiskey even though I definitely don't know enough about it. Given that there are a few drinkers in the #crasyhashtag crew with a fondness for Japanese whisky, I've been slowly learning more about various brands. This campaign from Suntory though is enough for me to just say screw it and I'm only going to be drinking their whisky for the cool factor. Working with TBWA, Suntory used a CNC router and a process that's sort of a inverse 3_D printing to carve out designs from ice cubes including Mario, Batman, a stiletto and landmarks. Check out my favourites here and head on to Adweek for the whole set.
