Geek Peek: Rebecca Minkoff


Rebecca Minkoff is definitely a bit of a geek what with her affinity for utilising tech in her retail stores such as interactive changing rooms with touch-screen mirrors that let customers request different sizes and send info about their session to their phones. She's in town for the opening of her new store at Harbour City and we catch up with her to learn more about her ultimate indulgence food, what she Googles and her favourite thing about Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Fashion Geek: What’s on your lust list?
Rebecca Minkoff: A great pair of sandals for summer, I can’t wait to wear our gladiator sandals once the temperatures warm up in New York! The perfect crossbody for the weekends, I’m loving the Mini-Sydney Crossbody right now! A great leather jacket is always on my lust list. Right now, I can’t get enough of our Ace jacket with fringe!

HKFG: What’s the thing you could live without... but still can’t bear to part with?
RM: My phone. I’m constantly checking emails, looking at my favorite social media apps like Instagram, and checking in with my friends, family, and staff via text.

HKFG: What’s your favourite thing about Hong Kong?
RM: I love the unique energy that Hong Kong has and the women’s personal style!

HKFG: Tell us your secret ambition.
MK: My not so secret ambition is to be an amazing mom. I have two children now, my son Luca (3 years old) and Daughter Bowie (9 months), I want to be the best mom that I can be to them.

HKFG: What’s the song that you sing in the shower?
RM: I’m not much of a singer, but right now, I can’t get Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” out of my head.

HKFG: Your ultimate indulgence food or go-to food when you’re stressing out?
MK: I love a good croissant!

HKFG: The celebrity you would most like to be/trade place with is...?
RM: Beyonce, but only for a day- I would miss my family too much.

HKFG: What was your first big investment purchase?
MK: A pair of amazing boots when I was in my twenties.

HKFG: What you would wish for if a genie came out of a lamp to grant you three wishes?
MK: I’d wish for luck, love, and happiness for my friends and family.

HKFG: What’s your worst nightmare?
MK: Getting stuck in an elevator- knock on wood that hasn’t happened yet!

HKFG: Last thing you think about before going to sleep?
MK: My to do list for the next day.

HKFG: What’s your favourite phone app?
MK: Instagram.

HKFG: What were your last five Google searches?
MK: Patti Smith, Juice bars near me, Weather in Hong Kong in April, Ferries in Harbour Island (I was on vacation there before I came here) and When does season three of Orange is the New Black premiere on Netflix?
