Nail Files: Block It

I have a confession. I am in love with nail polish and have way too many bottles at home. I can’t remember the last time my nails were naked so when the colour blocking trend exploded on the runways, I was ecstatic. No longer do I have to just settle for one colour, I can go for two!

Some tips for colour blocking nails, choose a thinner shade for the bottom and layer it with a thicker top colour. That means you don't necessarily have to have a light colour as your base coat, it's just a matter of finding the right consistency of nail polishes. I've found that Orly tends to have thicker nail polish while Essie are super thin. As you can see below, you can clash colours for some impact or go for a more muted yet still contrasting combination. You don’t have to just do extended French manis either, you can add polka dots (which I did by using the end of an old makeup brush as the tool to dot with or cut off a toothpick and make small dots liberally) or do a reverse French mani if you’re bored like I did with my neon contrasting mani. So feel free to go nuts and make sure you have a Seche Vite fast drying top coat which makes the waiting time oh so much shorter.
