Zombies Ate My Literature

You know when Jay-Z sampled the musical Annie when he released the insanely catchy Hard-Knock Life? (God, I only just typed it and it's already stuck in my head). The unlikely pairing of Broadway and hip hop made it a case of "so wrong it's right". I'm wondering if this is the case here, where haute literature has somehow been mashed up with... the undead. And not the romantic Twilight kind, but more the From Dusk Till Dawn type. Now for sale on Amazon is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Besides stunning cover art, the classic tale of status, love and longing has been quite literally invaded by zombies. Even the iconic first line, one of my favourites, has been modified: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." Spot on. I remember reading P&P for the first time in high school, and staying up till 3am reading it secretly in my room (yeah, I was a nerd, what's it to you?) so this is definitely going on my list.

One of the reviews on Amazon even goes so far as to praise the intricacies that the new adaptation has picked up on, such as why the hell Lizzie's supposed BFF Charlotte marries Mr Collins. Security? Yeah right. More like bitten by zombies. And should you purchase this and find it as addictive as the Twilight series, there's always Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters -- also guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.
