While I may be a bit too young to remember the ‘bing sutt’ or ‘ice room’ that were popular decades ago in Hong Kong, I can still appreciate the Starbucks and G.O.D collaboration where they transformed a section of the new Duddell Street Starbucks into a nostalgic corner paying homage to those days.
Ice Rooms were where folks use to gather to enjoy coffee, tea, and Western-style treats such as soda which pretty much encapsulates Starbucks. I may not be a fan of the coffee in Starbucks, their coffee isn’t strong enough, I still like to venture in to grab a frap to go or enjoy a chai latte while cosying it up on a sofa reading. This new Duddell Street store is the efforts of a partnership between G.O.D, undoubtedly one of Hong Kong’s most iconic lifestyle stores and of course Starbucks. The design approach blends the eras from 1950s to 1970s together with the modern millennium which creates an interesting contrast.
