Tomorrow Never Dies

Dropped by Domani for lunch a few weeks ago to gossip with one of my favourite gals and try out the concoctions of the new executive chef. Food there has always been kind of hit-or-miss for me, and the concept -- well-executed Italian classics -- seemed a bit too broad for it to garner any real gastronomic attention. This changes a little bit with the new guy Andrea Spagoni, who does a mix of today and tomorrow (which, of course, is what the restaurant is named for). That means good old favourites alongside more funky juxtapositions. No newfangled progressive techniques here, just intriguing pairings, of the chocolate-powder-covered-risotto ilk, or potato veloute with prawns and cottage cheese. Most of it works, some of it doesn't... but it's all exciting to discover anyway. Sort of like... "I like it, or even if I don't, I like the way you think."

And anyway, no matter what, the venue is FAN-tastic.
