I'm not sure if it's a combination of me growing older or that I just want to expand my shopping categories without breaking the bank but I was super excited to hear that Affordable Art Fair was finally coming to Hong Kong. Affordable Art Fair will set foot in Hong Kong for the first time from 15 – 17 March 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. We talk to founder William Ramsay to learn about his secret ambition and what fashion item he can't live without.
HKFG: What fashion item can’t you live without?
WR: My diamante specs!
HKFG: What’s the thing you could live without... but still can’t bear to part with?
WR: Whacky shirts!
HKFG: Tell us your secret ambition.
WR: To emulate my grandfathers for public service. And to continue on my quest to bring original contemporary art to first time buyers around the globe, by bringing Affordable Art Fair to even more cities – now 15 and counting!
HKFG: What was your first big investment purchase?
WR: I have never bought art for investment, nor do I recommend that anyone does; buy because you love it. This is exactly why I opened my gallery and started the Affordable Art Fair in London in 1999, through making art more accessible, I want to help people learn more about art and dispel the misconception that you have to be a squillionaire to buy it!
HKFG: What you would wish for if a genie came out of a lamp to grant you three wishes?
WR: Less work, more family time, more sleep/rest
HKFG: What’s your favourite mobile phone app?
WR: Shazam, which tells you what piece of music you are listening to.
HKFG: Last thing you think about before going to sleep?
WR: What I haven’t done
HKFG: What’s your favourite thing about Hong Kong?
WR: Great mix of old and new, traditional and contemporary. Very much reflected in the art scene here!
