Happy New Year fellow Geeks! How did you spend your New Year’s? As we resume our regularly scheduled programming, do let us know if there’s anything you’d like to see more of! So to start with, I’m going to be doing a series of travel and food posts seeing as I pretty much spent my entire vacation stuffing my face both in Hong Kong and in Bangkok.
If you’re ever in Bangkok, besides hitting up Platinum Mall which we’ve waxed lyrical about previously, be sure to check out Spice and Rice (how cute is the name?) at The Sukosol Hotel. The lovely Katie was kind enough to host my family there for a proper Thai dinner as well as yummy drinks at the beautiful Sapphire Bar and I swear you’d had to roll us out of the hotel by the end of the evening.
For drinks at the bar, we tried a variety of cocktails including their signature drink, The Sapphire, a blend of ultra premium vodka, mango juice, orange flower water and a hint of fresh vanilla. Lovely as it was, I was more intrigued by their Siam Secrets cocktail as these drinks honor natural Thai ingredients and the Ritzy Mango was delicious. Made of Thai rice vodka, chilli-mango syrup, passion fruit juice and lime, the drink packs quite the punch.
I had been craving my fav Thai dish rice crackers with minced pork in shrimp sauce for ages and for some reason, every time I ordered it while on the trip, I was foiled. The dish was either unavailable that time or was left from the order so when I went to Spice and Rice on my last night, I essentially was ready to riot if they didn’t have the dish. I ended up inhaling the entire dish in addition to tons of other dishes. Unfortunately, I don’t have photos of all the dishes we ate as I kinda forget to take photos as the evening went by because we were too engrossed with eating. However, that is signs of a good meal right?
