Top Notch Japanese

hkLifestyleGeek previews Inagiku's 10 course tasting menu
Kyoto is one of my favourite places to visit in Japan, with its ancient temples and slower pace. You can't help but zen out... And now you don't have to fly out there to try some food from there, as Inagiku Japanese Restaurant at IFC presents the ultimate dining experience with chef Hisato Nakahigashi from the two-star Michelin restaurant Miyamasou in Kyoto. He will be here from September 7-14 presenting what's been described as Japanese cuisine accented with a touch French flair.

Be sure to arrive at the restaurant completely famished because the tasting menu will leave your tastebuds satisfied.

Some highlights include thinly sliced filefish served with a pungent fish liver soy sauce and flash-grilled small shrimp; pickled lobster, which is actually deep-fried tempura style, served with marinated pumpkin that was delicious; crabmeat dumpling and sesame bean curd in soup; simmered abalone with radish, both flavourful; and grilled onigiri rice ball served with Japanese eel. Dessert is scrumptious with mirin granita served with mango puree and black sesame crystal dumpling.

The presentation of the dishes is exquisite, but there is a constant change in flavours and textures, giving your taste buds a definite work out. Some dishes are delicate and fragrant, others hearty and rich.

The tasting menu is also paired with sake, further elevating your dining experience. The sake is provided by a Kyoto-based sakemaker who will be on hand to explain the various kinds and how they are matched with the dishes.

The 10-course dinner is HK$2,680 with sake, HK$1,980 without. Make a reservation by calling 2805 0600.
