Pierre Herme Opening at Harbour City

This information is of absolutely no use to me because I'm one of those annoying weird people who avoids Kowloon unless absolutely necessary (and yes, the veal goulash at Islam Food is something I deem "absolutely necessary"), but Pierre Herme is opening at Harbour City this October. Watch out, Laduree! That said, I do find the two brands sufficiently different in philosophy that they are almost complementary. Herme did, after all, consult at Laduree back in the day. His macaroons are a lot more artisanal, complex, finely nuanced. A gourmet's choice, for someone who doesn't mind olive oil in his or her dessert or cares about having vanilla from three different countries melded in one product. Laduree is a surefire crowd-pleaser -- lovable flavours, darling little store design and packaging... great branding all-round, but also bold in a very fun-loving way, and not so serious or hoity-toity. The people's macaroon.

Anyway, if you head to Harbour City next month... you can do the official taste test. The Pepsi Challenge for macaroons.

Macarons & Chocolats Pierre Hermé Paris will be at Shop 2410, Level 2, Gateway Arcade, Harbour City, Kowloon.
