A Bite of New York

hkLifestyleGeek visits Eastside Tavern

Shore Hospitality has ventured across Victoria Harbour to open up Eastside Tavern in Tsim Sha Tsui East, in the Empire Centre, across from The Royal Garden. It's a casual place, with a large bar and giant screens for watching sports (ie footie). There's even a games room where customers can play foosball, pool, or darts. The restaurant is described as a New York style eatery, with American fare on the menu that's great for sharing -- unless you want to gorge on your own with the American-sized portions.

To start off there are a number of beers on tap and by the bottle, with Guinness, Magners Cider, Maisel's Weisse, and Great White on tap, as well as craft beers like Whistler Bear Paw Honey Lager by the bottle.

For starters, we tried the fig salad with Persian feta that arrived in a narrow bowl. The fig wedges were wrapped in ham for a nice combination, complete with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and red onions.

Next up was the meat lovers' pizza and it was the highlight of the meal. The thin crust pizza was perfect, flat and crunchy, topped with lots of cheese, peppers, salami, duck and ham. Needless to say this was devoured quickly!

Another winner was the EST burger, and we requested the patty be cooked medium. It arrived on a large wooden platter, giant bun and inside was the large patty with melted cheddar cheese, mushrooms (our extra garnish), lettuce and tomato. It was accompanied by deep-fried potato wedges that were delicious.

If you still have room for dessert, the New York cheesecake is a good choice, as well as the decadent chewy chocolate brownie and banana cake.
