Shanghai Fashion Geek: Fu He Hui

Had the trip from hell last week when I was stranded in Shanghai for over 24 hours but I did get one consolation prize which was to have dinner at the lovely Fu He Hui, the vegetarian restaurant by chef-patron Tony Lu. I had a terrific meal last time at Fu1039 so my colleague decided to take me out for an impromptu dinner at this latest addition to the Fu family which recently won the highest new entry award at Asia's 50 Best Restaurants. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by the constant checking of my flight status so I think a return visit is definitely needed. Check out the dishes I had after the cut.

We started with the avocado, mango, tomato and crisp cone.

Longan, walnut and papaya soup

Mash taro dumpling, spinach and pumpkin sauce

Chinese yam, termite mushroom and soy. Loved the presentation of this dish. It was surprisingly filling and at halfway through the meal, we were wondering if we would have space for more food.

Eggplant roll, kailan, white sesame and teriyaki sauce. Easily my favourite of the night as the kailan gave this roll and unexpected crunch and the sauce was not overly sweet as one would expect.

Lotus seeds, honey peas and black fungus

Fried rice, egg and dried turnip. Didn’t manage to take photos of my dessert as I received notification at this point that my flight was further delayed and I just collapsed into a ball of utter frustration.
