Must See TV Recruitment

I’m not sure if you regular readers are aware but both ShoeGeek and I are quite the TV junkies. With the regular scheduled programming going on hiatus for the summer, Christina and I have been actively looking for new shows to watch apart from our usual motley crew of sitcoms and dramas so if you have any recommendations do throw them our way. My current list of must-see TV includes Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Smash and New Girl. Yes, I’m a sitcom, musical kinda girl. Am now checking out 2 Broke Girls (while occasionally funny, I find it there’s too many stereotypical characters but the relationship between the two waitresses are nice and who doesn’t like cupcakes right?) I’m also now checking out Happy Endings which is being touted as the new How I Met Your Mother (can we meet her already? I’m losing interest) and Friends (which I will never be sick of and is still my travel companion loaded up on my iPhone although admittedly it’s more because I am lazy and since I’ve changed computers I’ve not synced my phone and gotten new stuff.)

I’ve been hearing that Revenge is a good show and that I should also check out Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23. But what others do you recommend? I’ve got long haul flights coming up so need to load up my TV entertainment! Also, don’t recommend Game of Thrones to me, been trying to get into it and couldn’t. I did manage to finish that 800 page thick book but haven’t been able to start the next and instead choosing to read wiki entries to find out what happens to characters. (Oh the shame!)

Apologies if this is a different sort of post than what you are used to reading from us Geeks but I’m a bit brain dead from the day job and as such this is just a stream of consciousness in a crossover collaboration with need to find new entertainment and lack of creativity. And besides, crowd sourcing is the way to go these days right?

  1. Happy Endings!!! It's funny (without canned laughter, at least you get to laugh without some nameless dudes overwhelming you). Peeny Hartz rules, y'all! Take my word for it (even though u dunno me).

  2. Thanks Adam. That's the show I'm trying out right now actually. I hear it's slow at the beginning and then improves so going to see how it goes. Right now, I'm kinda on the fence about it.

    Keep the suggestions coming!

  3. Agreed. Game of Thrones is too slow for me. I have also went on to read the summary on wiki!

Love Happy Endings. Finished both seasons within a few weeks (I have to control myself!). I like the reference to Chicago (cause I'm from there), and it's just one of those light and happy shows that can keep you company on a lazy weekend!

Other shows I've been watching: Fringe (if you like sci fi), Sherlock (it is really more like mini movies) and Once upon a time (about fairy tale characters stuck in real life). I also have Downton Abbey and Revenge downloaded when I'm done. Maybe I'll give 2 broke girls a try!

    1. Ohh so glad to see that I'm not the only one who read the summary on wiki! And a few weeks is nothing. I go through seasons over one weekend. It's ridonkulous!

And ohh Once Upon A Time sounds good. And yes, been hearing a lot about Downton Abbey but sounds like something quite heavy and so I haven't gotten into a good mindset to read about it.

Glad to see you stop by! Used to read I Am Fashion =)

  4. I prefer Grimm to Once Upon A Time - Grimm has a more crime angle to it and is also a bit ridiculous, whereas I think OUAT takes itself a bit too seriously and has lots of filler episodes that keep sidetracking from the main story arc (also Ginnifer Goodwin's face and hair annoy me).

I've been watching Don't Trust The Bitch - as far as new comedies go, it's not bad and I have a girl crush on Krysten Ritter. James van der Beek is doing some meta thing in it which I'm not yet sure if hilarious or cringe!

Have you watched any of Jane By Design? I haven't yet but my friend says it's ok... and I'm hoping fashion angle to show = pretty dresses.

And finally HART OF DIXIE. My fave. I love Rachel Bilson and the show is very cute and Hot Neighbour Wade is hot and spends many episodes wearing very little. Super happy it got renewed - now's the perfect chance to catch up with the whole season, it's definitely easy viewing! x

    1. ohhh I've got Grimm on my list too but never got around to watching it. So it's worth a shot?

And Don't Trust the Bitch is super short right? only a few episodes?

Haven't seen Jane by Design nor heard of it. What's the premise? And I also don't know Hart of Dixie either! ohhh so much to catch up on. Thanks Rach!

  5. Love Cougar Town! Only the first few episodes are about Cougar-ish relationships and then it is kind of like Friends but with more wine....a lot more wine! They have been trying to come up for a new name for it but can't because of the network or something so now the opening title is like a Simpsons sketch where they make snide comments about the title!

  6. You should definitely watch GCB. Apparently short for Good Christian Bitches. Don't let the Christianity part throw you off. It is hilarious. Lots of singing. It's about a woman who has to go back to her home town in Texas and everyone is super over the top. Kristin Chenoweth's in it and one of the main characters. Very colorful.
