In the Coils of the Naga

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ll know that I’ve been obsessed with the Xanth series ever since ShoeGeek introduced them to me a couple months ago. (Well I lied, she told me to read them over a year ago but I only got around to it when we were in Burma.) There’s a Naga species in the book where the creature has the head of a human and body of a snake (based upon the Mahabharata I assume) and when John Hardy sent over images for their CNY and Valentine’s collection saying how their Naga bracelets would be the perfect accessory I couldn’t quite fathom how that would work and of course requested pictures. Turns out Naga is also a type of dragons for Malay sailors amongst other cultures and per John Hardy tradition, these pieces were inspired by the Balinese culture.

Moral of the story? Fantasy books can lead to interesting discoveries about other cultures and I’m totally justified in carrying my Kindle wherever I go in order to keep reading. Oh and John Hardy has these kickass bracelets priced from HKD2800 to HK14,600 where I’m quite taken by the black leather bracelet.
