To a Tee

There's nothing like the perfect little white T-shirt: made of the softest cotton ever; approaching the consistency of a fabric that has been washed a million times but has really just left the factory floor; sheer almost to the point of translucency but yet loose and casual enough to counteract any pornographic leanings; androgynous enough to to have come from your boyfriend's closet yet slim-lined so as to tease of the dangerous curves that lie below...

And yet, it's near impossible to find the perfect tee, which is why a few designers have capitalized on said dilemma, by creating lines of butter-soft tanks and tees whose mission it is to worm their way into your closet and nestle themselves permanently against your upper body. So if you're willing to shell out for a plain tank or tee, you've come to the right place.

Kain Label is an LA-based line that claims "beloved vintage tees" as its inspiration. Their pocket tees are pretty legendary, and you can't beat them for so-sheer-it's-almost-trashy tops, absolutely fabulous for layering. Oversized is the way to go, because the drape is divine, just look at the hem of the tee on the model photos to see what I mean.

Then there are the cult faves, like the Erin Wasson for RVCA collection that has hipsters wetting themselves for the kooky-cool vintage-slash-surfer prints and cuts.

I don't know what rock you've been hiding under if you haven't come across this fashion obsession lately, but T by Alexander Wang is the ultimate in casual comfort. And if you must know, yes, I am no different from the rest of the sheep. I die a little inside when I see them. And I'd die much more to own them. You can tell I'm in love by the fact I'm collapsing into Rachel Zoe-isms.

For generations who came of age when Erin Wasson was just a child growing into a model, as opposed to a model turned It girl style setter, there's Michael Stars, which has a little more opacity and stretch to it.

And there's James Perse, whose shirts exhibit a kind of downtown cool that doesn't have that same look-at-me-look-at-me factor of the others, but makes its wearer exude careless confidence.
