Buying Time: Resort Redux

The last of the Resort collections are coming in, and you'd be surprised at some of the trends that are popping up. Here are five statement pieces for you to consider investing in...

hong kong fashion geek louis vuitton resort 2010 collection thakoon emilio pucci blue white mini dress
A blue and white poufy minidress is the perfect balance of flirty and sophisticated at Louis Vuitton, Pucci and Thakoon.

How to style it: A picture's worth a thousand words, and these photos say it all -- fierce footwear is all you need to make this look worthy of a summer cocktail party, whether it's black gladiators or knee-high open-toe boots. But keep the colour down below pared down, to show off the dress.

Crazy pants made their debut at Matthew Williamson and Basso & Brooke. Not an easy look to pull off, but imagine the style kudos you'll get if you do?

How to style it: Whatever colour you choose as the backdrop to your loony pantaloon, try to keep it in the palette of neutrals or black & white (or any combination of the three). The look is crazy, so don't play it too safe. Go crazy with accessories; the bigger, the better.

hong kong fashion geek resort 2010 collection matthew williamson yigal azrouel
A workman's jumpsuit gets a modern update, the baggy silhouette nipped in at waist and ankle levels. Yigal Azrouel does it in slate jersey, Matthew Williamson in a stiffer charcoal.

How to style it: Go girly! Although the examples here are a bit more staid, you can stack on the colourful bangles, bust out your bright clutch, and generally contrast the utilitarian aspect with unexpected flashes of bright. Heels are a must.

hong kong fashion geek resort 2010 collection chado ralph rucci yves saint laurent ysl
Your typical cocktail sheath gets a makeover with a little hustle in the bustle. Yves Saint Laurent goes up against a Chado Ralph Rucci look. Turbans optional.

How to style it: I for one would skip the turban but they're in the direction with sleek hair, I suppose. Nude shoes to complete the look.

hong kong fashion geek resort 2010 collection cynthia rowley marc jacobs
A boatneck sweater with nautical stripes works for both work and play, courtesy of Cynthia Rowley and Marc Jacobs.

How to style it: For a chic work look, Rowley's silk parachute trousers are breezy partner, but any flowy balloon silhouette would work, from a high-waisted pant to a mini bubble skirt. To dress it down a la MJ, go crazy -- clashing patterns are very on trend, and if this floral pajama short works, pretty much anything goes.
